Today, we are working on REGULAR VERBS. But... what are regular verbs? You must watch this easy video:

In English, there are REGULAR and IRREGULAR VERBS:

➤Regular verbs: we add -ed to form the past simple.

Examples (de presente a pasado):

I visit my grandad➝ I visited my grandad (yesterday).

Samantha wants to be a teacher➝ Samantha wanted to be a teacher (when she was young)

➤Irregular verbs: the past simple is completely different (algunos ya sabéis que al final de vuestro libro existe una lista de verbos irregulares para estudiar la forma de todos ellos, pues no siguen la regla de añadir -ed).

Examples:

They go to university➝ They went to university (five years ago)

Charlie is my best friend➝ Charlie was my best friend (at school)

Hay algunas irregularidades a la hora de añadir -ed en los pasados regulares:

1. Si el infinitivo ya acaba en -e, sólo añadimos -d: loved, liked
2. Si el infinitivo acaba en consonante + y, se cambia ésta por i latina: studied, tried
3. Si el infinitivo acaba en vocal + consonante y sílaba tónica, se duplica la consonante final: stopped, planned

We use some TIME EXPRESSIONS (usually at the end of sentences):

Yesterday (ayer)

Last year/Monday/weekend... (el año pasado/ el lunes pasado, el fin de semana pasado...)

one year ago/ three days ago... (hace un año/ hace 3 días...)

In 1965/the 1990s... (en 1965, en los 90...)
