Let's revise the Present Simple. It is used for routines and habits and we use the aulxiliary "do" or "does" for the 3rd person singular. Remember it:

Modal verbs: CAN -HAVE TO - MUST

 WE USE CAN / CAN'T TO TALK ABOUT ABILITIES:

Past Simple of Regular verbs and To be

As you already know, the past of the verb To Be (ser/estar) has two forms: WAS and WERE. 

The past of REGULAR VERBS finishes in -ed:

visit - visited

listen - listened

like - liked (*when the verb ends in -e, just add the 'd')

stop - stopped (*when the verb ends in CVC and strong syllable, double the final consonant)

cry - cried (*when the verb ends in consonant + Y, change 'y' for 'i')

Irregular verbs don't make the past by adding -ed, they are different! (Los verbos irregulares no forman el pasado con -ed). Al final de tu libro tienes una lista con los 80 verbos irregulares más usados. Te preguntarás por qué aparecen varias columnas: aparece el verbo en infinitivo y su traducción a español, el pasado simple del verbo y otra columna con el participio (que más adelante utilizarás para formar tiempos verbales compuestos, habitualmente con HAVE delante).

How do we form a sentence in the past? Read the example:

(+) She had some cereal and milk for breakfast yesterday (verbo en pasado)

(-) She didn't have cereal and milk for breakfast yesterday (observa que el verbo va en infinitivo)

 

(?) Did she have cereal and milk for breakfast yesterday? (did + subject + infinitive)

Homework Tuesday 16th (1º ESO)

Good morning! Cheer up kids, the school year is amost finished!

To finish the unit, you are going to do the Refresh your Memory activities, on page 86:

• Las actividades 1 a 4 son de gramática. En las 3 primeras debes completar como te indica, con verbos en pasado y en la 4 deberás corregir cada oración (negando primero la que hay escrita).
• Las actividades 5, 6 y 7 son de vocabulario. Ojo con las fechas en la 5, deberás escribir absolutamente con palabras.
• Las actividades 8 y 9 son de Listening and Speaking (la última como siempre, Dictation, sólo que podrás parar y escuchar cuantas veces necesites).

Homework Thursday 11th June (2º ESO)

Today we are going to do a Writing activity. Let's read the model text again on page 71: "What do you know about paper?". Now, look at the paragraph plan:

Title: What do you know about...? You can choose: metal, plastic, glass, batteries (pilas), cloth (tela). Es decir, que puedes elegir entre uno de esos materiales.

1. What do we use ... for? (¿para qué usamos el metal/plástico/pilas/tela?)

2. How much/ many ... do we use? (¿cuánto  metal/plástico/pilas/tela utilizamos?)

3. What should we do? (¿qué deberíamos hacer?)

4. What can you do to help? (¿qué puedes hacer tú para ayudar?).

Para poder elaborar tu Writing, necesitarás primero buscar la información necesaria por Internet, Así que elige uno de los materiales que te he sugerido, y localiza todos los datos que necesites. Recuerda que debes respetar los párrafos que te he explicado. Tienes más ejemplos en el Writing Reference, pág. 123.

Finally, we are going to do the Refresh Your Memory GRAMMAR activities 1, 2 and 3  on page 72. En la 1ª observa que debes escribir preguntas con Be Going To y responder afirmativa o negativamente (te lo indican con ✔ o ✘). Si la respuesta es negativa, deberás escribir la respuesta adecuada con las palabras que te ofrecen, utilizando de nuevo Be Going To.

Homework Thursday 11th June (1º ESO)

We are almost finishing Unit 7! Today we are doing some Listening and Writing activities:

• Listening page 84: Activity 1.Do you remember the Max Museum of the time tunnels? You are going to listen to three people speaking, they work at the museum. Sólo tendrás que decir qué hace cada uno de ellos: who takes photographs, who sells tickets, and who works in the gift shop (tienda de regalos). A continuación deberás responder a las preguntas (Activity 2) para lo que deberás escuchar con mucha atención (cuantas veces necesites).
• Read the model text, on page 85: "When I was young". En el texto modelo se habla de "the noughties". Se refiere a la década de los 2000 ("nought" es otra palabra para llamar al número 0). Y Al final también se nombra "the twenty-tens" (¿supones qué década será, no?). En el texto, Jason, de Australia, habla sobre su juventud en esa década, y fíjate que hay tres párrafos, en los que habla de:

1. TV programmes
2. Films
3. Music (singer, bands...)

• Answer the questions ( Activity 1, page 85). Please, use complete answers!
• Writing: When I was young. Read the paragraph plan: Here you are the information you need to write about in the 3 paragraphs. Como ves, además de decir qué programas de TV, películas o música te gustaban, debes justificarlo explicando por qué, o quiénes eran tus personajes favoritos, o comparando con lo que te gusta ahora. Si quieres, puedes elaborar primero un borrador con todo lo que te gustaba de cuando eras más pequeño, para no dejarte nada. ¿En qué década eras niño? The twenty-tens, of course!

Homework Tuesday 9th June (2º ESO)

Today, let's start with some listening activities:

• Page 70: activities 1 and 2. It's a conversation between two friends, they are in a museum. Para hacer estas actividades deberás escuchar el diálogo 2 o 3 veces. Puedes pararlo cuando necesites.
• Page 71: activity 1. First, you need to read the model text "What do you know about paper?" carefully to complete the sentences with the correct numbers. Observa que el texto habla sobre el papel y lee atentamente de qué trata cada párrafo, porque el próximo día te explicaré como hacer tu Writing sobre otro material que tú elijas.
• Do pages 24, 25, 26 and 27 of the digital Workbook (ya sabes que es una actividad por página). They are grammar activities about MUST and MUSTN'T. Remember,  we use it to express obligation.
• Interactive worksheet: click HERE. Remember to click on TERMINADO and "comprobar mis respuestas" when you finish. Then take a photo and send it to me by email.
