Modal verbs: CAN -HAVE TO - MUST

WE USE CAN / CAN'T TO TALK ABOUT ABILITIES:

More examples:

-She can drive a car but she can't rollerskate

-We can speak English but we can't speak Chinese.

WE USE HAVE TO/DON'T HAVE TO (NEED TO/DON'T NEED TO)  TO EXPRESS SOMETHING THAT IS NECESSARY TO DO:

What a mess! He has to tidy his room!

More examples:

-The Geography exam is next Tuesday, we have to/ need to study hard.

-There is a café at school, so you don't have to/ you don't need to bring your lunch, you can buy it there.

WE USE MUST/ MUSTN'T FOR OBLIGATION OR PROHIBITION:

 More examples:

-You mustn't feed animals at the zoo, it's forbidden!

-You must be at school at 8.30 every day.

 Now, do the activities:

Homework Tuesday 2nd June (2º ESO)

Hi there!
This is the homework today (go to page 69):
  • Activity 5: Read the dialogue again (on page 68) and match the expressions. Translate them into Spanish in your notebooks.
  • Activity 6: Read the shopping phrases.
  • Activities 7 and 8. First, complete the dialogue with the listening, and then write a similar dialogue (puedes ayudarte de las sugerencias que aparecen en la actividad 8 o utilizar tus propias ideas).
  • Let's review: MUST and MUSTN'T. Si should lo utilizamos para aconsejar (giving advice), must se utiliza para expresar obligación (expressing obligation), ya lo estudiamos en 1º de ESO).
  • Let's watch a video:
Mira estos ejemplos:
-I'm very tired! -You should go to bed early.
-You mustn't use your  mobile phones in the classroom, it's prohibited!
  • Now, you MUST do  activities 1, 2 and 3 on page 69  😉.
I strongly recommend you using Blink platform, it's easy and fast! Let's work hard!

Homework Thursday 21st May (2º ESO)

Good morning kids!
Today let's learn something new. Copy it in your notebook:
Giving advice with SHOULD.
We use SHOULD to give advice (usamos SHOULD para dar consejos). SHOULD es un verbo modal (igual que MUST), es igual para todos los pronombres y su negación es SHOULDN'T (should+not).
Let's see some examples:
👦-I'm not feeling well...(no me siento bien...)
👧-You should go to the doctor. (Deberías ir al médico)
👨-I've got a History test tomorrow! (Tengo un examen de Historia mañana)
👩-You should study! (¡Deberías estudiar!)
👧-She is very tired this morning (Ella está muy cansada esta mañana)
👦-She shouldn't go to bed late (No debería acostarse tarde)

  • Let's watch a video.

  • Now, let's practice: do activities 5 to 8 from page 67 (activity 7 is a listening.
  • And finally. let's watch a chapter from Extra English. I hope you like it! (It's episode 4 part 1.
    Have a nice weekend!😊
